What is linen and where does it come from?

Linen is one of the best-known and oldest fibres in the world. Once used for bed and table linen, it's now also used in clothing production. It's obtained from the flax plant, which has been used for textiles for decades. The flax plant can also be grown in a European climate, which means transport routes can be kept relatively short.

The properties of linen

Flax fibres are naturally extra-fine, which is why linen fabric is exceptionally smooth and pleasant against the skin. When well made, linen is very hard-wearing and dirt-repellent. Here's an overview of its key properties:

  • Robust and hard-wearing

  • Cooling and breathable

  • Fast drying

  • Light sheen for an elegant look

What’s the best way to look after linen clothing?

Linen clothing is generally easy to care for and can be machine washed. We recommend a wash cycle of 30–40°C. It's best to let it air dry afterwards. When ironing, you can use the "linen" setting. If your iron doesn't have this setting, make sure to iron on a low heat and, if possible, use the steam function.

Linen for sleeping

Linen works wonderfully for sleep textiles – mattresses, bedding and sleepwear alike. Its temperature-regulating properties provide pleasantly cool nights during the summer. The fibre helps create a balanced sleep climate and can absorb moisture, which has a positive effect on how well you sleep.
