Sleeping Naked in Summer – Yes or No?

Sleeping naked?

Rocco Cristofaro, sleeping naked is actually the most natural thing in the world. Magazines claim it’s great for well-being, health, and beauty. Would you recommend it too?

No! Ideally, you should wear comfortable, well-fitting pajamas. They help regulate your body temperature at night and promote restful sleep.

To avoid cooling down while sleeping, at least light sleepwear should be worn. Why? Because during REM sleep, the body's temperature regulation shuts down, increasing the risk of cooling and catching a cold.

Also, bras can be uncomfortable for women at night. In this case, a light, non-wired, and pressure-free bra is recommended. If you’re uncomfortable in bed, you won’t sleep well.

Why is it more comfortable to wear pajamas than to sleep naked?

Heat and humidity can disturb sleep – and sleeping naked doesn't necessarily help. Pajamas, especially made from natural materials, offer a cooling effect thanks to their moisture management (“moisture regain”). Moisture is absorbed and evaporated on the surface, creating a chill effect like air conditioning. Ideal materials: cotton, silk, wool, modal, lyocell, cashmere, and hemp.

How much sweat do we lose on average per night?

According to measurements in our climate chamber: between 150 and 480 grams of moisture.

Should you change your bedding more often if you sleep naked?

If the pajamas stay in the wardrobe, they can’t absorb sweat – more body fluids end up on the sheets. So you need to wash bedding more often, ideally twice a week or more, increasing laundry and impacting the environment.
