Discover the differences between fine rib and double rib.

Ribbed underwear is always made from 100% cotton. And because cotton is a natural fiber, it not only feels pleasantly soft against the skin, but also ensures optimal moisture regulation. Whether double rib or fine rib, this type of underwear is generally the perfect choice for everyone.

Features and Differences Between Fine Rib and Double Rib

Ribbed fabric is often mistakenly referred to as double rib. However, this isn’t always correct. There is a fundamental difference between double rib and fine rib in terms of production and wearing comfort.

Similarities

Both fine rib and double rib underwear are made using circular knitting machines and consist of 100% cotton. In terms of quality, there’s no difference between the two types. Today, choosing between fine rib or double rib is purely a matter of personal taste.

Distinction

Visually, fine rib and double rib can be distinguished quite easily. The spacing between the ribs is greater in double rib than in fine rib. This larger spacing is due to the fact that double rib underwear always features at least two rows of purl stitches alternating with knit stitches. This gives double rib a somewhat coarser appearance, but it is also more elastic compared to fine rib.
In fine rib underwear, the ribs are so close together that from a distance it’s hardly noticeable that the surface isn’t smooth. The fine, continuous ribs in fine rib fabric are formed by the columns of knit stitches. That’s why this type of underwear is also referred to as "knit-knit" fabric. At CALIDA, we offer two classic types of ribbed fabric.
