Pyjama Calida

How do I actually achieve this healthy and restful deep sleep? A statistic in our home country – Switzerland – shows that nearly a quarter of people suffer from sleep disorders. What’s more, the amount of sleep people get has gone down in the last 30 years. While the average is currently 7.5 hours during the workweek and 8.5 hours at the weekend, it used to be 40 minutes more each night 30 years ago. People need a restful sleep to relax from the day. This is because sleep has a restorative function and contributes to a healthy metabolism. Make a conscious effort to go to bed earlier. Your body will thank you, and nothing will stand in the way of an ideal start to the day.

The optimal amount of sleep

People have different sleep needs at various times in their life. Some people need more, while others need less. One of the largest studies on optimal sleep duration with about 1.1 million participants made the discovery that people between the ages of 18 and 64 need 7 hours of sleep per night. However, the amount varies significantly depending on your age. Children and young adults from 6 to 18 need 8 to 11 hours of sleep, but the optimal duration goes down as we age. People 64 and older can do with 5 to 7 hours. That said, the guidelines based on age differ depending on your body type and needs. The most important thing is that you feel good!

Power naps

In addition to getting the ideal amount of sleep, short power naps can also have a positive impact on your concentration and performance. This brief nap can reduce stress hormones, which positively affects your immune system. Sounds good, right? Still, you should make sure that your power naps are no longer than 15 minutes, otherwise you may fall into deep sleep, which is counterproductive.

Tip: Keep a key in your hand. As soon as your body falls into deep sleep, your hand will go limp and the key will fall to the floor. This will quickly wake you up again. ;-)
