How to fold your pyjamas: folding the top and pants neatly

Folding pyjamas isn’t difficult at all if you know the right technique. There are several methods, but we’ll show you the simplest and most efficient technique for folding pyjama pants, shirts and T-shirts.

Folding pyjama tops step by step

To fold your pyjama top neatly, follow these steps:

  1. Lay the pyjama shirt or T-shirt flat on a smooth surface.

  2. Glide your hands over the fabric to smooth out any wrinkles.

  3. Now fold one side of the top into the middle so that the sleeve is in the centre.

  4. Repeat this with the other side so that the sleeve is on top of the other one.

  5. Now fold the lower part of the shirt upwards so that the garment forms a compact rectangle.

Turn it over and voilà: you have a perfectly folded pyjama shirt or T-shirt that you can store in your wardrobe on its own or with your pyjama pants.

Folding your pyjama pants: here’s how

Folding your pyjama pants might be even easier than folding the top. Just follow these three steps:

  1. Lay the pants flat and smooth them out with your hands.

  2. Fold the trousers lengthwise so that both trouser legs are on top of each other.

  3. Now fold the lower part of the trousers upwards in the middle to create a neat, rectangular package.

To save space, you could place the shirt or t-shirt on top of the folded pants and fold them again together. That way both items are stored compactly together and won’t get separated in your drawer or wardrobe. If you like to wear pyjama sets, we recommend always putting the two pieces away together instead of storing them separately.

Storing your pyjamas properly: the three best options

Once you’ve folded your pyjamas, you need a good place to store them. Here are three practical storage options and their upsides:

Option 1: Storing pyjamas in drawers

Drawers are a popular place to store pyjamas. If you want to know exactly where your pyjama sets are, you could arrange them in a drawer organiser. That way, everything stays in its place and you can easily sort your pyjamas by time of year, material or colour – but more on that in a moment!

Option 2: Putting your pyjamas in your wardrobe

If you have more space in your wardrobe, you could also store your pyjamas on their own shelf. Again, it’s advisable to sort your pyjamas by season or material. For example, you could make two stacks for thicker winter pyjamas and another stack for lightweight cotton or TENCEL™ styles that are perfect for summer.

Option 3: Hang your pyjamas and nightdresses on clothes hangers

If you want completely wrinkle-free pyjamas, it’s best to hang them on a hanger. This is a particularly good idea for nightdresses and silky or delicate pyjamas. To take up less space on the clothes rail, hang the top over the hanger as usual, while hanging the pants on the centre bar. This ensures that your pyjama tops and pants always stay together.

Sorting and organising pyjamas systematically

As already mentioned, it can be a good idea to sort your pyjamas in the wardrobe according to certain criteria. This helps you find your favourite pieces and choose the right styles for the temperature or your mood. There are several ways of organising your pyjamas:

  • Grouping by season: Keep your winter and summer pyjamas separate so you can access the right style more quickly.

  • Sorting by material: Cotton, silk or TENCEL™ – depending on the material, your sleepwear will have different care requirements. You’re fine to put cotton items in drawers, for instance, but delicate silk pieces should be hung up.

  • Arranging by colour: If you sort your pyjamas by colour, you’ll find what you’re looking for faster and can keep track of everything.

With the right technique, folding pyjamas is a quick and simple chore that keeps your wardrobe tidy. Organising your sleepwear carefully can help you find what you’re looking for more quickly in the evening, while also keeping your textiles in good condition and saving space. Of course, the same goes for your underwear and loungewear!
