Tips to extend the life of your favorite bras.

How often should you wash your bra?

Unlike briefs and panties, etc., we don’t change our bra every day. As bras and bustiers can be worn for several consecutive days, we recommend washing them after about four wears. Washing them too often can damage the material.

If you are prone to sweating, however, you should wash your bra after every wear. The same applies to sports bras and yoga wear. This will ensure they stay fresh.

What is the best way to wash your bra?

As a rule, you should follow the washing instructions on the label inside your bra. There are various bras made of different materials, so it is important to read the care label before washing.

Bras can be washed either by hand or in the washing machine. Here is a brief explanation of how to do this:

1) Washing your bra by hand

Underwired and push-up bras should ideally be washed by hand, as should underwear made from delicate materials such as silk, for example. When washing by hand, proceed as follows:

  • Fill a bowl or sink with lukewarm water.

  • Add mild detergent as per the dosage instructions.

  • Place your bra in the water and leave it to soak for several minutes.

  • Move your bra back and forth in the water if you like.

  • After around five to ten minutes, rinse your bra in cold water.

Bras from the "Cate" series are best left to air dry outside.

2) Washing your bra in the washing machine

Most bras can be washed in the washing machine as well as by hand. Here are a few points to consider:

  • Fasten your bra before washing. This will stop the hooks from getting caught in the machine or other clothing.

  • Your bra can be washed in a laundry bag, if available. This provides optimal protection for your bra.

  • Start by sorting your laundry according to colour and make sure that you wash your bras with items of a similar colour.

  • Select a gentle wash cycle, such as the ‘hand wash cycle’, for example. Do not put the laundry through a spin cycle.

  • And make sure you wash it at no more than 40°C.

What is the best way to dry your bra?

Bras should always be air-dried. They should never be tumble-dried, as they can become deformed in the machine.

Ideally, leave your bra to dry on a washing line or clothes horse to protect the material.
