Or are you completely new to the bra world and wondering whether you could be doing something fundamentally wrong when putting on a bra? Firstly, it should be said that your well-being comes first. Put your bra on correctly: How to do it step by step

When putting on a bra, the order is probably the most controversial. Should the bra be fastened at the belly and then turned around? And do you adjust the straps before or after draping the breasts in the bra? We tell you how to put your bra on correctly to protect both you and the bra.

Step 1: Arms through the straps

First of all, it makes sense to adjust the straps of your bra a little wider. Now place them over your shoulders so that the cups are already resting on your breast. Make sure that both the straps and the underbust band are straight and not twisted.

Step 2: Fasten bra at the back

Now it gets a little tricky because you have to fasten your bra at the back. There are usually small hooks on one side of the bra band, which are hooked into the eyelets on the other side. When you take both sides to the front and place your index and middle fingers directly on the hooks and eyelets, it will be easier to fasten the bra at the back.

Tip: It’s best to choose the underbust measurement of new bras so that the widest setting of the fastener fits best. If your bra stretches a little over time, you can always tighten it again.

Step 3: Drape the breast securely in the bra

Now you should make sure that your breasts lie comfortably in the bra and are enclosed by the cups everywhere. To do this, bend forwards and make sure that nothing is sticking out at the sides of the cups. You may have to help with your hands to get everything draped correctly.

Step 4: Adjust the straps correctly

If your breasts lie comfortably in the bra, you can now adjust the straps. They should not slip down, but should also not be so tight that they pinch or even cut in. Once you have adjusted your bra straps, they should have the perfect length for you the next time you put them on.

Tip: Always bring both straps to the same length so that they offer the same support. This way, you can prevent postural damage and pain. However, remember that it’s not just the bra straps that should hold the weight of your breasts, but also the cups, the centre bridge and the underbust band of your bra.

Step 5: The stress test

Once the bra is on, you should check whether it really fits comfortably. Move your upper body in all directions, stretch your arms upwards, downwards and to the side, lean forwards and backwards, jump up and down. If everything is still in place and nothing is pinching, sticking out or slipping out, the bra fits perfectly. Otherwise, you should check the bra size and the setting of the back fastener and the straps again.

For beginners: Fastening the bra on the belly – but the right way!

Do you have problems fastening your bra at the back? Then you can put the bra around your body the other way around and fasten the clasp on your belly. Before fastening, make sure that nothing is twisted and that the bra straps are as wide as possible. As you only put the straps over your shoulders afterwards using this technique, they could otherwise wear out more quickly.
