What makes the perfect wedding look?
Wedding season is almost here! Aside from the perfect underwear, the main focus is, of course, the wedding dress. The young, innovative Swiss label Piqyourdress emphasises individuality and the everyday reusability of individual pieces. Just like at CALIDA, its products are designed in Switzerland and manufactured in Europe. Co-founder of Piqyourdress Gabi Elia tells us what makes the perfect wedding look.

What makes the perfect wedding look?
The perfect wedding look is one that makes you shine. You shouldn’t feel like you’re playing dress-up; the perfect wedding outfit should simply make you feel beautiful and at ease. That’s when you know you’ve found the perfect look, I think.
What details should you bear in mind?
From my own experience, I’d say comfortable shoes are a must – that’s something I would do differently if I had the chance. You can’t dance half as well if your feet are hurting! It’s also important that your outfit fits perfectly and flatters your figure. It's such a shame to see a beautiful dress that doesn’t fit properly.
You share CALIDA’s love of the mix-and-match concept, allowing people to put together individual combinations. Is that something your clients really value?
Alongside the reusability of the individual pieces, that’s what makes Piqyourdress so special. Everyone can put together their own individual look, depending on their size, figure, the occasion and the season. It’s also a lot of fun experimenting with the different combinations and trying them on in the shop. Our stylists help you find the perfect look for you.
Do you think a wedding dress needs to be white? You have a lot of other colours on offer...
We provide a lot of brides with dresses for registry office weddings, so white – or ivory, as we call it – definitely isn’t a must. Lots of our customers simply opt for a white top with a light-coloured skirt, which they can later pair with a matching top and wear to another occasion. However, if the couple isn’t doing the registry office and the church wedding separately but is doing everything on the same occasion, then ivory is still the most popular colour. Which is also nice – after all, everyone should be able to recognise that you’re the bride on your wedding day!
Your looks are all about the modern bride. What has been the response from your customers?
Our customers often tell us how happy they are to have found a brand that doesn’t make them feel like they are playing dress-up. They also appreciate the straightforward, free fitting. Customers often mention the honest advice and affordable prices, too. We are always delighted by this kind of feedback. A modern bride doesn’t just care about the outfit; they care about the shopping experience and being able to identify with the label.
You are married yourself. What is your favourite memory of your own wedding?
I got married in 2012, and I will never forget that day, or in fact, that whole weekend. It was the only time in my life that all my family and friends were gathered together in the same place. It was such a wonderful feeling to be surrounded by people who love you, to see them celebrating with you and be able to share your joy with them all.
What are essentials for the big day?
Have fun and be spontaneous: stay in the moment and enjoy every second. It all goes by so quickly. And I'd definitely recommend making a wedding video – you won't regret it!
